El Camino Real Park

In addition to picnic areas, a community room, horseshoes, and tennis courts, the park has two baseball/football fields and a soccer field. There is also a band shell and a pool.

El Camino Real, literally The Royal Road or King’s Highway, is a historic route in California that connects 21 Spanish missions, four presidios, and three pueblos. It stretches across the state from the San Francisco Bay area to the southern coast of Alta California. See more.

Tennis Courts

This park has 6 tennis courts, baseball and handball areas, a kid’s playground, and standing grills. There is also a large picnic pavilion. The park is fairly busy and it is well maintained.

The Parks and Recreation Department hopes to build a gymnasium that will allow indoor league play for adults, youth basketball, and yoga or other types of movement classes. It will also be a place for weddings or gatherings and serve as a community meeting area.

The neighborhood has many parks and is close to coffee shops and restaurants. The schools are good and the neighborhood is safe for families. Most residents own their homes and there are plenty of sidewalks for walking. The weather is mostly sunny and dry with mild temperatures throughout the year. The hottest months are from July to September, and the coldest are from December to February. John Wayne Airport (SNA) is 10 miles away. There is a bus service that runs to and from Orange County and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). There are also numerous taxi services in the city.

Baseball Fields

The park has two youth baseball fields and one regulation softball field. There is also a picnic area, basketball and sand volleyball courts, a community room, and three children’s play areas. The park is open year-round with the exception of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

The fields are located behind Handy School off Collins Street in the City of Orange. The easiest way to get to the baseball fields is from the 57 freeway exit at Covina Blvd. Travel west on Covina Boulevard, it merges with Badillo Street then veers you right onto the street just past Handy School.

There is plenty of parking in the school’s lot as well as along the street. You can also park in the El Camino Real Park parking lot and walk through the gates the field is to the left. It is pretty hard to miss. The gate will not be unlocked so it is a good idea to bring a key if you plan on playing at this location. Visit this site!

Pickleball Courts

The swishing of paddles and the dink of plastic balls is a familiar sound on the courts at parks across Southern California. A mashup of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, the sport has become so popular that it has pushed cities to make decisions about where and how many dedicated pickleball courts to create.

The answer is not always easy: Recreation departments must weigh the demand for more courts against the limited number of existing resources, whether it be the use of tennis court space or money to fund a new facility.

Marlboro Park (2600 Watson Ave, Cypress) – There are two outdoor courts with paint lines and portable nets on a multi-use court.

Playground

Located near the tennis courts, this small playground features equipment rated for 5-12 year olds. It is a very popular place to play with kids in Orange. The park is square and two sides border busy streets so be careful with your children.

The City of Orange holds its summer concerts at the Hart Park Bandshell and two other parks (El Camino Real and Grijalva). Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, low lawn chairs, and picnic baskets but pets and alcohol are not allowed. Food will be available for purchase.

There are also 2 outdoor pickleball courts. They are free and can be used without reservation. However, the lines are overlaid on a tennis court so they are taller than typical pickleball nets. The park is very popular and there are a lot of kids playing here all day. This can lead to a wait for a court. If you plan on visiting, try to arrive early. Check our next area of interest here.
